Mercury Area Track and Field Roundup: Boyertown, Pottstown, Phoenixville meet suspended
The Pioneer Athletic Conference double-dual meet with Pottstown and Phoenixville at Boyertown was not completed Tuesday due to intermittent stormy weather during the afternoon hours.
The meet will be completed today at Phoenixville’s Washington Field at 3 p.m.
All running events were finished Tuesday as well as the throws. Despite the rain and humid weather conditions, some of the runners turned in some strong times with some interesting duels on the track.
On the boys’ side, Boyertown senior Dan Heller had a big day with victories in the 100 and 200-meter dashes as well as anchoring the 4×100 and 4×400 relays to victory. Pottstown’s Brandon Tinson finished second to Heller in both the 100 and 200. Senior Kenny Branford anchored the Bears’ winning 4×800 relay.
For the Bear girls, junior Gillian Kasitz also turned in a huge day. Kasitz anchored the winning 4×800 relay and then won the 1,600-meter run. Kasitz also took the 800 and anchored the winning 4×400 relay in the closing event of the day. Junior Becca Hemingway won the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Pottstown’s Brian Perez finished first in the boys’ 300 intermediate hurdles and 110 high hurdles. The Trojans’ Justin Beasley-Turner, a senior, posted a personal best of 4:32 in the 1,600 and qualified for districts in two events.
Phoenixville senior Sean McGinnis used strong last laps to come from behind to win both the 1,600 and 800. The Phantoms’ Ashlyn Duda remained undefeated in the girls’ javelin by winning the event at 93 feet, 11 inches on her final throw of the day.
Phoenixville’s Keri Marini anchored the winning 4×100 relay and then won the 100 hurdles, too.
Daniel Boone 78, Muhlenberg 72 >> Zachary Murray and Andrew Kresge each won two individual events to spark the Blazers in their Berks Conference meet with the Muhls.
Murray headed the fields in both the 1,600 (4:46.68) and 3,200 (10:42.25) while Kresge won the shot put (41-0 1/2) and discus (132-5). Boone’s other individual firsts came from Andrew Baer in the 800 (2:07.54), Diondre Hall in the 300 intermediate hurdles (44.54) and Nasim Muhammad in the long jump (19-4 1/2).
Girls track
Daniel Boone 87, Muhlenberg 62 >> Skylar Emory won two individual events to head the Blazers in their Berks Conference meet with the Muhls.
Emory was dominant in the sprints, taking the 100 (13.79) and 200 (28.18). Boone won six of eight individual races, getting firsts from Lauren Reightneour in the 400 (1:03.10), Rachel Eidson in the 800 (2:27.90, Maeve Picariello in the 1,600 (5:58.61) and Magdalena Nygard in the 3,200 (13:49.79).
