Duffy has big day for Methacton at PA Track Classic
PLYMOUTH MEETING >> Caroline Duffy came sprinting into Opening Day and never stopped.
“I definitely feel like (Saturday was) one of my stronger competition days,” the Methacton senior said, “especially to start the spring season off.”
The Warriors’ versatile star raced to victory in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes Saturday afternoon, highlighting an impressive showing by Methacton at the 32nd PA Track Classic at sunny Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School.
“I’m really excited that I get to start the season off this way,” Duffy said.
The senior led a quartet of Methacton competitors in the 100 dash, bursting across the line in 12.72 seconds. Warrior depth was showcased in the event, as sophomore Lauren Prusacki (13.0), sophomore Amy Domenick (13.12), and senior Kelly Groth (13.17) took spots two through four, with North Penn junior Jessica Brenfleck (13.20) coming on strong.
Duffy will soon be competing once again in the 300 hurdles, an event she ran out in Shippensburg last May, coming within a second of making it to the final.
“I’ve been to the outdoor State Championships twice in the 300 hurdles and I didn’t run them (Saturday) just because I didn’t have my steps ready to go,” she said after her victory in the 200. “I’ll save that for when I’m ready.
“I did the 200 instead and I would definitely like to get to states in that also,” she said. “Those are definitely two of my goals that I hope I can achieve for my senior year, one last hurrah.”
Methacton’s success carried out into the field, where Fallon Brown placed first in the girls pole vault with a vault of 10 feet. The Warrior boys raced to a win in the 4×100 relay, cranking out a time of 43.56.
Methacton, guided by two first-year coaches in Chris Shaffer (boys) and Ruth Akintoye (girls) — got the fast start it was looking for.
“I’m so fortunate for the team that I have,” Duffy said. “We are all so close. Everyone’s always cheering each other on. We’re one big family, and I couldn’t ask for a better team.”
Or a better Opening day.
“We’re lucky with the day we had today — gorgeous day for running,” Duffy said.
