Daniel Boone 2016 Softball Preview
Daniel Boone
Head Coach: Lee Trythall, first season.
Last years record: 10-0 Berks 1, 24-4 overall. (Lost to Lower Dauphin 3-1 in District 3-AAAA title game; lost to eventual PIAA-AAAA champion Parkland in state semifinals).
Players to watch: Brooke Piccarreta, Jr., OF: Jenna Piccarreta, Jr., OF; Gabby Willman, Jr., C; Heather Hall, So., P; Sydney Hayes, So., 3B.
Outlook: It’ll be strange to see Daniel Boone without Bekah Slattery in the circle now that the three-time All-Area Player of the Year graduated after leading the Blazers to new heights in 2015. With Slattery no longer continuing to provide masterful outings — she’s now doing that for Division II’s Lock Haven — sophomore Heather Hall will look to continue the long lineage of terrific Blazer pitching. The Piccarreta twins return in the outfield with Willman moving from first base to catcher, replacing the graduated Savannah Toth. Hayes, after a breakout freshman season, will play third for a Daniel Boone team that is coached by Trythall, a 31-year coaching veteran who has spent the last nine seasons with the Sting organization. His back-to-the-basics approach should have the Blazers gunning for another Section 1 crown in 2016.
