Exeter quartet in medal hunt after Day 1 at PIAA Championships
Exeter had its four qualifiers for the PIAA Championships still in the medal hunt through the first day of tournament action at Hershey’s Giant Center.
Austin DeSanto (48-0) advanced to the 120-pound quarterfinals with a 2:54 technical fall of Jersey Shore’s Hunter Zondory. Oscar Daniels (44-7) also stayed in the gold-medal hunt at 285 with a 7-3 decision of LaSalle’s Vincenzo Pelusi.
Brett Kulp (132) and Denny Karas (195) were dropped into wrestlebacks with losses Thursday. Karas went 1-1 on the day, answering his opening loss with a 5-0 decision of Oley Valley’s Charles Wildermuth.
Gov. Mifflin’s Dylan Harr won his 195 opener, pinning South Philadelphia’s Miles Lee in 2:23. Wilson’s Isaac Schannauer went 2-0 on opening day, pinning Upper Darby’s Peter Augustin in 1:12 and edging Norwin’s Hayden Rice, 3-2. Twin Valley’s Aaron Wildonger is in the second round of consolations, with a 1:11 pin of Parkland’s Andrew Mastrangelo to his credit.
