Haverford School’s Kennett going out with Hall of Fame nod

Prior to Saturday’s finals of the Class AAA Southeast Regional Wrestling Championships, the Southeast Regional Wrestling Hall of Fame inducted its 2016 class. Bruce Kennett, longtime Haverford School head coach and a 1969 graduate of Haverford High, was among the honorees.

“To me, it’s a fulfillment of a lifetime,” Kennett said. “It’s been a big part of my life. I fell in love with the sport since the day I got started.”

He took over the Fords program in 1995 and racked up 306 wins against 127 losses in his tenure. Kennett, also a teacher at The Haverford School, will retire from both professions this year.

“A lot of people say I deserve it,” he said of the Hall of Fame appointment. “I don’t know about that. I’ve had a lot of great kids.”

Boyertown, which won the team title Saturday, is coached by Penncrest All-Delco Pete Ventresca. He is 210-69 in 11 seasons at Boyertown, the second-most wins in program history. Ventresca has guided the Bears to seven PAC-10 regular-season titles, three league postseason championships, four District One Class AAA dual-meet crowns, including the last three in a row and three straight regional championships. Boyertown heavyweight Tommy Killoran was named Outstanding Wrestler after pinning Neshaminy’s Bruce Graeber in the 285-pound final.
