Baldwin School relay team wins medal at Indoor Track State Championships
The Baldwin School 4×400 meter relay team of Myla Barnett, Jennifer Dietrich, Marissa McGarrey and Absara Irgau finished in sixth place at the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association Indoor State Championships Feb. 28 at Penn State University.
The relay team shattered the school record and broke four minutes for the first time ever in school history. The team finished the race with a time of 3:59.44 and won the school’s first-ever indoor track state championship relay medal.
The Polar Bears also earned a Top 10 performance in the 400 meter dash, as Jennifer Dietrich took ninth place with a time of 58.54.
It was a very busy day for Dietrich who qualified for three events. She clocked a 27.01 in the 200 meter run, which was good for 24th place.
Lastly, the Baldwin 4×200 meter relay team of Ellie Greenberg, Sarah Park, Irgau and McGarrey placed 23rd with a time of 1:48.76.
The Baldwin varsity indoor track program has improved dramatically the past three years under the guidance of head coach Ije Iheoma and assistant coach Dashera Richardson.
“The girls were a pleasure to coach the entire indoor season,” said Iheoma. “The improved times and strong results at States is a testament to the hard work everyone put in and the mental toughness and strong character of each team member.”
