Upper Darby and Penn Wood are golden at Glen Mills
A little snow didn’t stop Upper Darby and Penn Wood from collecting its share of gold, as well as many other medals, at the Track and Field Coaches Association of Greater Philadelphia meet at Glen Mills.
The Royals and Patriots combined to win four events in the Division I portion of the meet, which was rescheduled from Jan. 25 due to snow.
Mason Weh and Gianni Lawrence won the 60- and 200-meter dashes, respectively, to pace Upper Darby’s efforts. Richard Moore (third in 800), Amir Goodwin (fifth in mile) and Jordan Pelzer (second in triple jump) also claimed individual medals for the Royals. Upper Darby also earned medals in all three relay events (third in 4 x 800, and fourth in 4 x 200 and 4 x 400).
Penn Wood’s medal haul was just as impressive. Jahi Smith won the 800, while teammate Sekou Kanneh was first in the 60 hurdles. Ndiaga Seck took second in the 200. Kenneth Johnson was second in the 400 and Dennis Manyeah was second in the high jump. The Patriots were second in the 4 x 200 and fifth in the 4 x 400.
Chester’s Braheem Bishop led a good day for the Clippers with a victory in the high jump. Bishop topped Manyeah on fewer misses. Also for Chester, James Jackson was second in the 60 hurdles and Maurice Johnson was fourth in the 800.
In Division II, Nicholas Rosario, Michael Barnes and Devin Bostwick highlighted a good day for host Glen Mills. Nicholas was first in the 400. Barnes claimed gold in the 60-meter hurdles and Bostwick won the high jump to pace the Bulls.
Denarii Springs (second in 60), Ryan Gillis (second in 200), Inerji Sirleaf (third in 800), Darius Rosales (second in 3,000), Quadir Gibson (second in shot put) and Smeaj Robinson (fourth in shot put) also won individual medals for Glen Mills. The Bulls also earned medals in all three relays including a first in the 4 x 200.
Avery Lederer and Mike Arndt highlighted Penncrest’s efforts. Lederer was first in the 3,000 and Arndt led the way as Delco claimed five of the top six spots in the shot put. Teammate Evan Wildermuth was part of a 1-2-3 Delco finish in the high jump.
Derrick Stephenson of Sun Valley finished third in both the 200 and high jump. Michael Logie of Delco Christian was third in the 400. Episcopal Academy’s Jakob Jorgensen placed second in the mile. Mike Chamberlain of Interboro was second in the pole vault, while the Bucs took second in the 4 x 800 and third in the 4 x 400.
