Defense steals the show for Sun Valley
Ryan Hall scored 16 points, and Kyle Ryan added 14, but it was the Sun Valley defense that stole the show Monday night in a 47-41 win over Great Valley in Ches-Mont League boys basketball.
The Vanguards (8-12, 5-7) held the Patriots to just eight first-half points, then weathered a 21-8 disadvantage in the third quarter to rally for the win and keep their hopes of earning the final playoff berth in the District One Class AAA playoffs alive.
In the Central League:
Strath Haven 45, Marple Newtown 42 >> John Harrar paired nine points with 10 rebounds, and Kyree Fuller added nine points, including two free throws that clinched the game with 30 seconds left for Haven (18-3, 12-3).
Marcus Weathers scored 17 points, and Nick DiCamillo added 14 in a game effort by the Tigers.
Garnet Valley 58, Haverford 29 >> Andrew Louden scored 17 points, and Austin Laughlin added 14 points as the Jaguars (13-7, 8-7) eased to a big victory for their District One Class AAAA hopes.
Connor Guilfoil led the Fords with six points.
Penncrest 44, Radnor 38 >> Shaun Norwood buried three triples, and Tyler Norwood added 12 points as the Lions (12-9, 9-6) solidified their district positioning with a fourth straight win.
Vinnie Kelly scored 13 points, and Jake Bodenger added 12 for Radnor (11-10, 6-9).
Springfield 53, Harriton 50 >> Great Orjih posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Nick Fox added 12 points in a rare offensive outburst for the Cougars (7-14, 4-11).
Conestoga 67, Upper Darby 45 >> Maurice Grier scored 19 points, and Raquon West added nine, but the Royals (7-14, 5-11) could get little else to go their way.
In the Inter-Ac League:
Episcopal Academy 60, Malvern Prep 58 >> Nick Alikakos paired 18 points with 10 rebounds, and both Conner Delaney (17 points) and Matt Woods (16) stepped up with big games as the Churchmen (15-5, 6-1) held on late to remain in the race for the league title.
Haverford School 69, Springside Chestnut Hill 28 >> Jack Marshall paired 19 points with seven rebounds, and Kharon Randolph dished six assists around his 17 points as the Fords romped.
Gavin Burke added 14 points on three 3-pointers for Haverford School (7-13, 2-5).
In the Bicentennial League:
Delco Christian 55, Bristol 46 >> Wyatt Harkins’ 15 points took him over 1,000 career, and Grant Fischer added 19 for the Knights (11-9, 8-7).
In nonleague action:
Valley Forge Military 65, Christian Academy 47 >> Davier Daniels scored 14 points, and Jalen Sherrill added 10, but the Crusaders (4-16) started too slowly to recover.
