Radnor swimmers continue success in Central League
The Radnor High School swimming teams are off to a good start in the new year, with Central League victories in January over Haverford, Harriton, Springfield and for the boys, a win over Strath Haven, bringing the Red Raider boys’ record to 6-1 and 5-2 for the Radnor girls.
The Red Raider swimmers also gave top performances at the annual All-American High School Invitational swim meet in Wilkes-Barre Jan. 15-16, with the Red Raider girls finishing second overall and the Radnor boys third overall out of six high schools from across the state.
Radnor’s second place Central League standing heading in to the last three dual swim meets of the season put the boys and girls teams in excellent position for a highly competitive Central League championship meet, to be held Feb. 19-20 at Radnor High School.
For the Radnor girls, consistent individual swims with first and second place finishes all season long have come from sophomore Julia Cullen (50 free, 100 fly, 200IM, 100 back; junior Emily Moyher (100 free); junior Sasha Smolyansky (200 free, 500 free); senior Julia Condran (100 breast); and sophomore Grace Wakiyama (500 free, 100 breast, 100 fly, 200IM).
Red Raider boys in top spots include senior Steve Giannella (100 free, 100 back); sophomore James El-Deiry (200IM, 500 free) freshman Patrick Cullen (50 free); junior Greg Giannella (50 free, 100 free, 200 free); senior Clayton Bowes (50 free, 200 free, 500 free); sophomore Ethan Cai (100 fly, 100 breast, 500 free); and senior Steve Chen (100 fly, 100 breast, 200IM).
Radnor divers continue to score big points with Central- and district-qualifying dives for Natasha Lowy, Annika DeRoos, Samantha Companova, Johnny Bernadino and Hager Neeb.
