Boyertown’s Kapp reaches 1,000 points in win over CD East.
Her name will go down in Boyertown lore as one of the greats to put on a Bears jersey.
For junior Abby Kapp, it’s an idea that still hasn’t sunk in.

Needing only 12 points to reach the 1,000 point mark, Kapp wasted no time, setting the mark early in the second quarter to become the sixth female in Boyertown history to reach the milestone as the Bears topped Central Dauphin East 51-45 in the AFBE Classic at Spring-Ford on Saturday.
“It feels really good (to break the 1,000-point mark),” Kapp said. “I’ve had really good support by my teammates, my family and my coaches and it’s something I won’t forget. It’s a great milestone to accomplish and I’m hoping to keep this success and momentum this season.”
Kapp reached the mark at the 7:21 mark of the second quarter, where she snuck into the paint with a back-door cut before laying in the milestone-clinching bucket off a feed from teammate Ali Bauman. Kapp finished with a game-high 29 points with a 3-pointer as the Bears overcame a nine-point second quarter to come away with the six-point win.
“Our focus is always on going out and winning,” Kapp said. “We didn’t really change anything in the gameplan. The No. 1 priority was to score, get a lead and play good defense. The gameplan wasn’t for me to get to 1,000.
“Now it’s time to move on and try to keep the momentum we’ve built.”

Kapp joins Kaitlyn Eisenhard (Class of 2013), Kristen Ehst (1995), Keri Suydam (1998), Wanda Moyer (1984) and Julie Reidenauer (1980), as the only Boyertown girls basketball players to reach the 1,000-point mark. She has a chance to become the school’s all-time leading scorer, needing only 304 points the remaining of this year and next to break the record held by Eisenhard (1,420). For Kapp, just being among the greats of Boyertown was something she couldn’t even dream of.
“This is something that I never could imagine happening, I couldn’t have even dreamt of it,” Kapp said. “Breaking the mark with this group of people that have been so supportive, it really is a great feeling, I don’t know how to describe it.”
