Stuart comes alive, helps Garnet Valley earn tie
Down three goals with seven and a half minutes to play, Garnet Valley’s hockey team needed something special Monday. Gannon Stuart obliged.
Stuart set up Anthony Starzi for a goal, then deposited goals three and four on the night 44 seconds apart to salvage an 8-8 tie with Conestoga.
Stuart finished with five points. He and Joseph Schull put the Jags up 2-0 3:46 in before four straight goals were scored by Conestoga. Matthew Wood’s second assist set up Stuart to narrow the deficit to 6-5 early in the third, but Conestoga again padded the lead to three.
Starzi scored twice, and Thomas Schenk paired a goal with two assists for GV. Graham Carpenter paired two goals with two assists for Conestoga, while Tate Kienzle scored twice among his three points.
In the PCL/Blue:
Archbishop Ryan 4, Archbishop Carroll 2 >> Power-play tallies by Matthew Strofe and Brendan George set Carroll up with a 2-1 lead in the second period, but Blaze Ferris scored twice to hand Ryan the win. Jacob George made 23 saves for Carroll.
