O’Hara’s Mancini sisters headline Delco champs field
The 2016 Delaware County Girls Indoor Track Championships will be held at Haverford College Wednesday night.
The 21-team meet will begin at 6:30 with the distance medley relay. The top five finishers in each event will earn medals, but there will be no team scoring for the meet.
Among the returning champions who will be competing are Mikayla Schneider of the Academy of Notre Dame in the 800-meter run, Grace Mancini of Cardinal O’Hara in the mile run, O’Hara’s Liz Mancini in the 3,000-meter run, and Garnet Valley shot putter Nina Gambacorta.
Grace Mancini was 3,000-meter run champion in the 2014 meet.
Penncrest’s Alicia Collier, the defending 60-meter dash champion who also won the 200-meter dash in the 2014 meet, will compete in the 400-meter dash, in which she is the top-seeded entrant, as well as the long jump.
Nierra Berry of Chichester has the top seed time in the 60-meter dash and shares the No. 1 seed in the 200 with Danielle Peyton of Springfield. Rachel Kent of Strath Haven is seeded No. 1 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Penn Wood is the top seed in the distance medley relay, while Chester is seeded No. 1 in the 4 x 200 relay. Cardinal O’Hara has the top seed time in the 4 x 400 relay, and Strath Haven is top-seeded for the 4 x 800 relay.
Maddy Moore of Ridley is the No. 1 seed in the long jump, and Episcopal Academy’s Kathryn Wilson is top seed in the triple jump. Maddie Santoro of Haverford High is seeded No. 1 in the high jump.
Cardinal O’Hara junior Olivia Arizin, who helped the Lions to victory in the 4 x 800 relay in last year’s meet, will not compete. She is entered in the mile run trials for the Millrose Games in New York City.
