Myers, Hart combine to carry Haverford
Freshman Grace Myers came through with wins in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly Tuesday to lead Haverford to a 97-89 win over Penncrest in Central League girls swimming action.
Maddie Hart won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke for the Fords, then anchored the winning 400 free relay with Myers, Grace O’Brien and Ilira Zherka to ensure victory.
Claire Walsh led Penncrest with wins in the 50 and 100 free. The Lions used a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 breaststroke, led by Madison Dickert, to make the final relay more intriguing.
Also in the Central League:
Springfield 108, Upper Darby 67 >> Carly Swartz won the 50 and 100 free, and Madeline Werndl swam to victory in the 200 IM and 100 back for the Cougars.
Megan Le scored Upper Darby’s only win in the 100 breaststroke.
Garnet Valley 97, Ridley 89 >> Garnet Valley’s freestyle dominance won the day. Jordan Stansfield claimed the 50 and 100 and anchored the clinching 400 relay, while Noelle DiClemente won the 200 and 500 for the Jags.
Gab Rudy won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke for Ridley.
Lower Merion 101, Marple Newtown 77 >> Sarah Ogawa’s win in the 100 back and Tara McCloskey’s triumph in the 100 breaststroke were too little, too late for the Tigers.
In the Catholic League:
Bonner & Prendergast 76, Hallahan 47 >> Annie Givnish won the 100 free and 100 breaststroke as the Pandas swept all 11 events en route to victory.
In the Inter-Ac:
Notre Dame 119, Springside Chestnut Hill 46 >> Kaitlin Perni won the 500 free and 100 back, and Michaela McGeary (200 IM), Meg Gentile (100 free) and Alysa Dihn (100 fly) each paired an individual win with two relay triumphs as the Irish routed.
Episcopal Academy 103, Baldwin School 62 >> Emma Seiberlich won the 100 free and 100 back, Alex Sumner prevailed in the 200 free and 100 fly and Sarah Baturka was quickest in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke for the Churchwomen.
Boys Swimming
A new year means new records at the Haverford School.
Alex Boratto set a school mark in the 50 free off the front of the record-setting 200 medley relay, and he also took part in the record-breaking 200 free relay as the Fords downed Penn Charter, 100-74, in Inter-Ac action.
Boratto, also the winner of the 100 free, joined Brian Brennan and Matt Haigh in taking part in both record-setting relays.
Haigh won the 200 and 400 free, while Charlie Ryan won the 100 fly and 100 back, setting a school mark in the former for the Fords (2-0, 2-0).
In the Central League:
Haverford 101, Penncrest 83 >> Matt Phillips won the 50 free, Collin Pettit bested the field in the 500 and Matthew Bochanski won the 100 breaststroke as the Fords’ depth won the day. Steve Szathmary and Will Canny forged a 1-2 diving result.
Mike Paul won the 100 and 200 free for Penncrest, while Daniel Rosenberg (100 fly, 100 back) earned gold twice in the back half of the meet.
Upper Darby 102, Springfield 78 >> Jack McConnell won the 100 and 200 free, and Will Olmstead paired a 200 IM triumph with the 100 breaststroke title to pace the Royals.
Springfield’s Jack Booth won the 100 back and 100 fly.
Ridley 96, Garnet Valley 90 >> Donnie Taziole had a hand in all of the Green Raiders’ swim wins, claiming the 50 free, 100 back, leading off the medley relay and anchoring the clinching 400 free relay. Gene Gibbons was tops in diving for the Green Raiders.
Alex Mitchell (200 IM, 100 free) and Shane Scudder (200 free, 500 free) each won twice for GV.
Lower Merion 108, Marple Newtown 77 >> Dylan Keer won the 200 free, Johnny Truax claimed the 100 breaststroke and Demetri Tsitsios claimed diving for the Tigers.
In the Catholic League:
Roman Catholic 95, Bonner & Prendergast 84 >> Danny Dwyer claimed the 50 and 100 free, and Luke McDevitt was victorious in the 200 free and 100 back, but even winning all three relays couldn’t deliver a victory for the Friars.
