Former CB West coach Hensel joins Hatboro-Horsham staff
When Hatboro-Horsham head coach Mike Kapusta took over the Hatters football program three-plus years ago, the program was at a low point, one could argue rock bottom.
This season the Hatters finished just a game below .500 as Kapusta seems to have the program at stable status, certainly a lot more than when he took over. The Hatters program just received another shot in the arm as Hatboro-Horsham have decided to bring back former Central Bucks West headman Brian Hensel on to the coaching staff.
“Hatboro is a great place, I’d love to be a part of the program and part of that community,” Hensel said.
Hensel aside from being West’s head coach for seven seasons brings a wealth of football knowledge that dates back to his playing days at Lehigh University back in the late 80s; The kind of experience that Kapusta, heading into his fourth year in control of the Hatters can draw on.
“Our head coaches are obviously a huge piece of the hiring process,” Hatboro-Horsham athletic director Lou James said. “They have to find out if a candidate can work with them and can do what needs to be done in the system that they have in place. So our head coaches in any sport have huge input.”
Hensel was fired as CB West’s head coach in November 2014 after a hazing scandal caused the team to cancel its final two games of that year’s season. The Bucks went 31-33 in six seasons under Hensel, reaching the District 1-AAAA quarterfinals in 2010 and 2013.
While Hensel is not officially a member of the staff yet, he still has some clearances and other logistical things that have to be taken care of; he is excited to join the Hatboro-Horsham staff.
“As every school district is with their fall programs right now in the process of putting together their staff for the upcoming year,” James said. “Brian is and will be part of our staff as they come in. We need to walk through and finish the process.”
