Chen paces Radnor to win over Fords
Steve Chen keyed a wickedly fast 1-2-3 finish for Radnor in the 200 individual medley late Friday night, helping Radnor claim a 98-88 win over Haverford in boys Central League swimming action.
Chen touched first with teammates James El-Deiry and Ethan Cai following, all in District One automatic cuts. Haverford’s top two swimmers, Matthew Bochanski and David Abrahams, notched considerations cuts in an extremely fast event.
Chen rebounded to edge Abrahams and Bochanski in the 100 breaststroke, all three achieving district auto cuts, and Cai was quickest in the 100 butterfly. Patrick Cullen added two wins for Radnor in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and Steve Giannella claimed the 100 backstroke for the Raiders.
Haverford scored individual wins courtesy of Collin Pettit in the 200 and 500 free, while Steve Szathmary (282.61) and Will Canny (276.38) went 1-2 in diving.
Girls Swimming
Sasha Smolyansky won the 200 free and 100 back to lead Radnor to a 100-86 decision over Haverford.
Radnor dominated the sprints, with Julia Cullen winning the 50 free and 100 fly and Emily Moyher claiming the 100 free. Julia Condran also chipped in a win in the 100 breast.
Haverford’s Maddie Hart branched out, winning the 400 free and 200 IM.
