Mighty mighty Quinn was a catalyst for North Penn girls

It was the perfect end to a perfect season.
“We worked so well together and we played together for four years,” North Penn’s Shannon Quinn said of North Penn’s dynamic senior foursome. “It feels great to have won it with them.”
Chosen as The Reporter’s Athlete of the Year for Girls Water Polo, Quinn exemplified the type of senior leadership and poise that ran strong through the Maidens, the undefeated 2015 State Champs.
“Our seniors are amazing,” coach Katie Grunmeier said. “I love them. They’re the best. They’re the heart and soul of our team, the heart and soul of our program the last three or four years.”
Quinn’s versatility on offense, as she led the team in shot percentage as well as piling up goals and assists in an attack that scored over 10 goals per contest, was matched by her play on defense, as she was one of the team leaders in steals and helped shut down opposing attacks.
North Penn rolled through the regular season 24-0, capturing top honors at Beast of the East, the Tiger Classic, and the Knight Invite, and then the Maidens would claim the Eastern Conference Championship before battling to their second straight state title and seventh in the last 10 seasons.
Quinn, who had a pair of goals in the state final win, helped her team rally back from a 4-3 halftime deficit to Cumberland Valley to win 7-6 and finish 29-0.
“I think we realized this is our pool, and this is what we’ve worked for all season,” she said of the comeback. “We need to come through and win this for our team.”
Quinn joined fellow seniors Erin O’Neill, Aimee Baur, and Leah Brown in being named First Team All-State.
“Honestly, it feels like a dream,” Quinn said of the season. “This is what we’ve been wanting the whole entire season. This is what we’ve worked for for so long and it feels so good to have all the hard work pay off.”
Quinn, still deciding where she will head next year, would like to continue her career on the college level. She’s currently a member of the NP swim team, which headed into winter break with a 3-0 start.
