Wing helps Ridley soar to tournament title
Julian Wing scored a game-high 15 points and Brett Foster added 13 as the Green Raiders turned on the defense after halftime to score a 47-25 win over Cardinal O’Hara in championship game of the Ridley Holiday Tournament.
Jaye’Lyn Peebles led the way for O’Hara (4-5) with 14 points, but Ridley (9-0) limited the Lions to just 10 points after halftime.
In the Ridley Tournament consolation game:
South Philadelphia 59, Interboro 46 >> Josh Encarnacion scored 15 points and Dom Robinson added eight, but the Bucs couldn’t keep pace.
At the Jameer/Pete Nelson Classic at Widener:
Downingtown West 55, Chester 51 >> Stanley Davis scored a career-high 19 points, but no one else topped seven as the Clippers (2-5) couldn’t quite get over the hump in their third consecutive loss.
St. Benedict’s 50, Archbishop Carroll 49 >> Ryan Daly scored 14 points, including a 3-pointer with four seconds left to tie it, but his runner at the buzzer just rimmed out as the Patriots were handed their first loss of the season.
Josh Sharkey added 14 points for Carroll, and John Rigsby supplied eight for Carroll (9-1).
Carroll transfer David Beatty led unbeaten Benedict’s with 12 points.
At the Unionville Shootout:
Chichester 88, Kennett 56 >> Derrick Welles assembled a triple-double of 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists as the Eagles (7-3) won their sixth straight game.
Eric Montanez and DaQuan Granberry poured in 18 points apiece — 10 of Montanez’s coming in a first quarter that Chi won, 28-12 — and James Hendricks chipped in 13 for the Eagles.
