Springfield’s Hall soars to gold in triple jump, takes third in hurdles
Springfield’s Ache Hall won the boys’ triple jump and also qualified for the state championship meet by finishing third in the 60-meter hurdles, Penn Wood set the meet record in running away with the girls’ sprint medley relay and Bonner & Prendergast captured the boys’ distance medley relay to qualify for the Meet of Champions, highlighting local performances in Monday’s Robert J. Burdette Classic at Lehigh University.
In the boys’ 400, Upper Darby’s Gianni Lawrence qualified for states with a third-place finish (51.34 seconds) while Tamir Jones of Cardinal O’Hara took fifth (52.69) to earn a berth in the Meet of Champions.
Haverford High’s Justin Moscoe (MOC) was sixth in the boys’ 200, O’Hara’s Justin Jones (MOC) was fifth and Radnor’s Peter Cooke (MOC) was sixth in the 800, and Liam Galligan of Springfield qualified for states in the mile with his fifth-place finish.
Other top boys performances included:
Penncrest’s Avery Lederer was sixth in the 3,000; Penn Wood (Ndiaga Seck, Dennis Manyeah, Tyreem Welton, Jahi Smith)was second and O’Hara was sixth in the sprint medley relay; Upper Darby (MOC) was second, O’Hara (MOC) was fourth and Penncrest was fifth in the 4 x 400; Penn Wood (states) was third and Penncrest (MOC) was fourth in the 4 x 800; Braheem Bishop of Chester and Penn Wood’s Dennis Manyeah tied for fourth in the high jump; and the shot put competition saw Penncrest’s Mike Arndt finish fourth and Radnor’s Aidan Bermudez take sixth.
On the girls’ side:
Along with Penn Wood’s meet-record effort in winning the sprint medley relay (Terri Turner, Petula Darley, Ellsie Moore, Agnes Mansaray), O’Hara finished third; the Patriots (Maisha Coleman, Terri Turner, Rokia Koba, Agnes Mansaray) also qualified for states by setting a meet record in the 4 x 800; O’Hara’s Elizabeth Mancini (states) took second in the 3,000; and Penncrest’s Alicia Collier (states) was third in the 200.
Other highlights included O’Hara taking fourth in the distance medley relay and sixth in the 4 x 400, Upper Darby finishing fifth in the 4 x 200, Upper Darby’s Dior Lawrence capturing sixth in the triple jump while the Royals’ Victoria Robinson was sixth in the 60 hurdles.
