Jorgensen, Episcopal Academy end Malvern’s great run
Malvern Prep has ruled boys cross country in the Inter-Ac League for more than a decade.
Going into Monday’s championship race at Belmont Plateau, the Friars had won four straight crowns and 11 of the last 12 team titles.
All streaks, though, must come to an end.
Jakob Jorgensen led the way as Episcopal played three runners in the top nine and five in the top 20 to edge Malvern for its first Inter-Ac League team title since 1998, according to the EA website.
EA finished with 52 points. Malvern scored 61.
Jorgensen placed second in 17:28, while teammates Ellis Lindgren (17:50) and Jack O’Connell (18:09) finished fourth and ninth, respectively. Nick Horbowy was 17th and Philip Tobar 20th to secure the victory for the Churchmen.
Colin Willis of Malvern was the overall winner. He crossed the finish line in 17:01.
Haverford School placed its top five runners in the top 20 to take third place with 77 points. Peter Merhige was the top finisher for the Fords. He was 11th.
