Sacred Heart earns top seed in Class A
Being the top seed in the District One Class A girls volleyball tournament is nothing new for Sacred Heart. Neither is winning the district title.
The Lions (14-7) earned the top seed for the second straight year and will go for their fifth District One Class A title in the last six years when the tournament gets under way Nov. 3 at Plymouth-Whitemarsh. Sacred Heart takes on fourth-seeded Faith Christian in the second game of a doubleheader at Plymouth Whitemarsh.
The winner of the Sacred Heart-Faith Christian game takes on the winner of the game between No. 2 Christopher Dock and No. 3 Calvary Baptist for the district crown Nov. 5 at Harriton High School.
Meanwhile, Strath Haven, fresh off its fourth Central League title in six years, is the third seed in Class AAA. The Panthers (17-3) are one of six Delco teams in the tournament. Strath Haven earned a bye in the first round and meets the winner of the game between No. 14 Mount St. Joseph and No. 19 Plymouth-Whitemarsh in the second round Thursday.
Penncrest, Ridley and Academy Park earned home games in the first round, while Haverford and Garnet Valley will be on the road. The Lions are seeded sixth and host No. 27 Central Bucks South in Tuesday’s first round. The Green Raiders are seeded 11th and entertain No. 22 Abington in the first round. The Knights are seeded 16th and face No. 17 Henderson at home. Haverford is No. 23 and visits No. 10 Upper Dublin, while the Jaguars are No. 26 and are at No. 7 Downingtown West.
