Neshaminy softball’s Sophie Beretski commits to Kutztown
LANGHORNE – It looks like yet another Neshaminy softball player is taking her game to the next level. Shortstop Sophie Beretski committed to Kutztown University just yesterday (Wed., Oct. 14).
Neshaminy head coach Dave Chichilitti says the Division II Golden Bears will be getting a dynamic defensive player who has made countless eye-popping plays.
After leading the Lady Skins in hitting last year, Beretski earned All-Area, and All-Suburban One League (SOL) honors. She is expected to make an immediate impact at Kutztown.
“I have never coached a tougher player than Sophie Beretski,” said coach Dave Chichilitti. “She is the definition of heart and grit. She is everything we want in a player at Neshaminy High school.”
As a team, the Skins went 13-1 in claiming another SOL National conference crown, while going 19-3, overall. In districts, the team defeated No. 16 seed Downingtown East 8-0 before falling to eventual champion Owen J. Roberts 4-3 in the D-1 AAAA quarterfinals.
For her part, Beretski registerd 28 hits in 71 at bats, a .395 avg. with 18 runs scored and 21 RBI. Eight of her hits on the season went for extra bases.
Last season, Neshaminy had six players take their game to the next level including two that went Division I. Catcher Sam Offenback will play for Long Island University and third baseman Nikki Wild went to the University of Rhode Island.
Sara Snyder-Leonhauser (Ursinus), Sydney Powell (Widener), Corrine Garuffe (Albright) and Caitlyn Degner (Delaware Valley) were among the remainder of the Class of 2015.
