Fortna leads Tigers to Harrier Invitational title
Fleetwood Area High School senior Carl Fortna, Jr. cruised to victory in winning the individual boys’ title to lead the Fleetwood cross country team to the championship at the 30th annual Harrier Cross Country Invitational at Pottstown on Sept. 26.
A total of 105 runners participated in the event. Fortna’s time of 16:47 was the eight fastest time in the recorded history of the meet, as he completed the 3.1-mile course 44 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. The Fleetwood boys, coached by Rory McMullen, won their second team trophy this year after placing fifth out of 19 teams at the Northampton Invitational on Sept. 5. Other top finishers for Fleetwood were Shawn Delay (6th), Matt Delozier (8th), Jake Wetherhold (10th), Evan Santos (19th), Shawn Fortna (21st) and Matt Frey (25th).
Isabella Ouellette led the Fleetwood girls cross country team at the Harrier Invitational with a second place finish overall. Other top finishers for the Tigers were: Cassy Harwood (4th), Maddie Burt (12th), and Rebecca Fritz (19th).
