Jenkintown takes care of Nativity
The Jenkintown passing game was just a little bit off a week ago for Jenkintown when it took on Strawberry Mansion.
Week two was a different story for the Drakes as the passing game and the entire offense fired on all cylinders. Andres Madden threw for 203 yards and five touchdowns completing seven of 10 passes, three of Madden’s five TDs were to Greg Farina as Jenkintown cruised to a 52-15 win over Nativity.
“It was just more practice. He was running his routes hard and I was throwing it there,” Madden said of Farina and the passing game.
Besides his contributions through the air Madden also racked up yardage on the ground helping the Drake offense stay on schedule. Madden ran with both physicality and finesse as he finished with 72 yards rushing on nine carries on the afternoon.
“I was just trying to get as many yards as I can just trying to get first downs,” Madden said.
If there was any points of concern for the Jenkintown offense it was the Drakes had all of its success either working on a short field due to a good special teams or defensive play or just an explosive play from the offense. The offense didn’t have any long-sustained drives.
“We had big plays and we’re not going to get away with that,” Jenkintown coach Anthony Owens said. “We have to improve our running game.”
Defensively, Jenkintown gave up a handful of big plays. For the most part though it remained a disruptive force for the Green Wave offense particularly the defensive line led by Isiah Davenport holding them to 237 yards of total offense.
“Overall it was a decent performance,” Owens said. “We preached don’t let anyone behind you and of course what do they do, let someone behind them.”
Jenkintown will take on George School next week with a 2-0 record but the Drakes know it will have to play better if it wants to improve to a 3-0 mark.
“We have to improve in every facet of the game,” Owens said. “We have George School coming in here next week who is outstanding. They’ve won by wide margins and to be perfectly honest if we play like we’ve played the last two games we’ll be on the wo games we’ll be on the receiving end.”
