Harriton tennis squad improves to 2-0
The Harriton High School girls’ tennis squad improved to 2-0 with a 5-2 win against Abington Wednesday. All three Harriton singles players won their matches in two sets. Nina Hoog beat Maura Waldner, 6-1, 6-1, while Sophia Kandoussi topped Maggie Stack, 6-3, 6-0. At third singles, Lauren Binnion bested Ellen Rach, 6-1, 6-1.
Gabreille Kontra and Sonia Groenwveld, playing third doubles, won 6-2, 6-1, and Kit Meiler and Emma Ansilman, at fourth doubles, emerged victorious at 6-3, 6-0.
One day earlier, Harriton defeated Lower Moreland 7-0, in the season opener. Connie Richards defeated Allison Oblon, 6-3, 6-0, at first singles, while Nina Hoog beat Elizabeth Berzin, 6-1, 6-0. At third singles, Sophia Kandoussi bested Sofie Arno, 6-0, 6-4.
The doubles teams of Lauren Binnion and Erika Lutz, Nell Jones and Sophia Kontra and Kit Meiler and Emma Anisman won their matches in two sets, while the doubles team of Gabrielle Kontra and Sonia Groeneveld were taken to three sets, but emerged victorious. They lost the first set in a 7-6 tie-break, but won the next two sets.
