Viscusi strikes out 10 to give Episcopal winning edge
Toeing the rubber with a share of the Inter-Ac League softball title on the line, Alex Viscusi and her 10 strikeouts helped keep Penn Charter batters at bay en route to Episcopal Academy’s 4-2 defeat of the Quakers Friday. Viscusi also helped her cause with a 2-for-2 game on the offensive side with an RBI.
Eileen Hennessy doubled for the Churchwomen, while Nina Pagano added a pair of runs scored.
After Episcopal dropped an earlier contest to Penn Charter last month, also by a 4-2 score, the defending league champion returned the favor behind the Princeton-bound Viscusi.
“We played (Penn Charter) the first time … and we just didn’t play well offensively and defensively,’ Episcopal coach Terry Coyne said of the earlier loss to the Quakers. “We had three errors the first game and we didn’t hit.’
The Churchwomen will look to defend their Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association title as the No. 2 seed when the PAISAA tournament kicks off next week, Coyne said. Penn Charter will hold the top seed.
