Radnor sweeps singles for net gain in PIAA tourney
Will Frigerio, Josh Taylor and Brad Burton all won their singles matches to get Radnor’s tennis team off on the right foot in the PIAA Class AAA tennis tournament, with a 4-1 victory over La Salle Tuesday.
Frigerio defeated Andrew Lutschsunig 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. Taylor took down La Salle’s Franz Wagner in straight sets, while Burton defeated Eric Bunting 6-7, 6-1 and 6-3.
Jared Bunch and Luke DeAngelis notched La Salle’s lone point in doubles, but the Raiders, the fourth seed out of District One, will move on to the state quarterfinals Friday against Abington Heights in Hershey.
Eddie Paik and Ryan Shimizu combined for a doubles victory to finish off the match right for Radnor.
In Inter-Ac play:
Haverford School 7, Malvern 0: The top singles duo of Zach and Ben Lieb each won their match and led the Fords past Malvern. Other winners for the Fords were Nathan Kidambi in singles, and the doubles teams of Andrew Gushner/Jackson Simon, Teddy Selverian/Benji Bacharach, Mathias Fink/Gage Bowser and Peter Merhige/Andrew Clark.
In one last nonleague match:
Academy Park 5, King’s Christian 0: The Knights finished up with nine victories in their last 10 matches. Top singles player Duwaine Jenkins third singles Rodney Gilliard both won their matches by 6-0, 6-0, and second singles Dayquan Harrison won his match 6-2, 6-3.
Nazir Clark-Crooms and Evan Gadson, and Dylan Latini and Nils Creque won in doubles.
