Upper Dublin clinches 3rd straight SOL American title with win over Wissahickon
LOWER GWYNEDD — It is rare that a team demonstrates the kind of dominance seen from Upper Dublin lately on the boys lacrosse field. But for the third straight season the Cardinals are Suburban One League American Conference champions.
“It feels great,’ said Upper Dublin coach JP Banks. “We start the season with certain goals, this is the first one we have for this year, and to accomplish it in the fashion that we have is great and we’d really like to finish it as an undefeated season.’
Not only have they been winning the conference, but they haven’t lost a league game since the 2012 season and Tuesday night was no different as the Cardinals beat rival Wissahickon 12-4 to clinch the title.
“This is a big accomplishment for us, we’ve worked all season and this was the ultimate goal, so we’re happy,’ said Upper Dublin’s Michael Sowers.
Sowers finished the game with three goals and two assists and says that it was a little sweeter to get the win against a rival.
“It definitely is (sweeter). Wiss is a great team and every time we come out we expect a dog fight with them,” he said. “So we were definitely excited to come out and do what we did here tonight.’
As for Wissahickon, the Trojans were able to sustain some offensive chances early but they just weren’t able to convert them for goals.
