Delco Christian’s McKeaney takes nine in 50 free
Alex McKeaney’s stellar freshman postseason got a little better Wednesday night.
The Delco Christian rookie earned the top seed in the girls 50 freestyle B final of the PIAA Class AA championships, then backed it up by taking ninth place overall in the final at Bucknell University.
McKeaney set a season-best time of 24.93 seconds in prelims, then managed to improve on that with a 24.83 in the evening, prevailing in the B final.
McKeaney was the only Delco participant in the two days of Class AA competition to make it out of prelims.
Bonner-Prendergast’s Victoria Brooks was 31st in both of her individual events, clocking in at 25.92 in the 50 free Wednesday and 57.54 in the 100 free. Archbishop Carroll’s Olivia Snyder was 32nd in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.65.
On the boys side, the best finishes were authored by Cardinal O’Hara’s Conor Hassard, who took 28th in both Wednesday’s 100 butterfly and Thursday’s 100 back. His time of 56.86 seconds got him there in the 100 fly, while the senior clocked in at 57.87 in the back.
Teammate Cullen Boyle was 32nd in the 100 free in 53.00 seconds and 31st in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.88.
In Wednesday’s competition, Bonner-Prendergast’s Daniel Dwyer (2:08.43 in the 200 free), John Ellis (2:21.65 in the 200 individual medley) and Luke McDevitt (24.05 in the 50 free) all finished in 32nd place.
Cardinal O’Hara’s boys 200 medley relay was 23rd, and its 200 free relay claimed 21st, both the slowest of the non-disqualified teams. Bonner-Prendergast’s boys 400 free relay took 24th.
The Class AAA competition begins Friday and ends Saturday.
