Area trio compete at state tournament
Three area wrestlers made it all the way to the PIAA state wrestling championships that was held at Hersheypark Arena, March 5-7. There were no medals to be had by either of the wrestlers. Josh Giorgio of Schuylkill Valley went 1-2 in the tournament, while teammate Jonathan Tindall was 2-2, as was Hamburg’s Ignacion Reynoso.
At the 195 pound weight class, Tindall opened the tournament on the right foot with an 8-2 victory over Cody Hamilton of Mo Valley. But he was then sent to the consolation bracket when he lost a 10-2 decision to the eventual weight class champion, Dylan Reynolds of Saegertown. In the consolation bracket, Tindall defeated Gage Heller of Milton, 5-2. His season came to an end with a 7-0 loss to Tyler Cole of Canton.
Giorgio advance to the next round by getting a bye in the first round. Then Michael Bartolo of Reynolds defeated him in overtime, 3-1. In the consolation bracket, Giorgio lost to Adam George of Richland, 4-1.
At 182 pounds, Reynoso began the tournament with a 6-4 overtime victory over Taylor Foster of Juniata. In the next round, Reynoso lost on a technical fall to Corey Hazel of Penns Valley, 15-0. In the consolation bracket, Reynoso earned a 13-6 victory over Craig Spitler of Northern Lebanon, then ended his season with a 2-0 loss to Garrette Reinwald of Ft. LeBoeuf.
