Governor Mifflin ready for a big season
There is a lot of excitement at the Governor Mifflin High boys’ tennis team’s practices. After a league record of 3-2 last year, the Mustangs come back with four returning letter winners and expectations of a big season.
“I’m seeing very much excitement and anticipation considering the weather and the few times we’ve been able to hit from player and coach,’ said head coach Tom Gahres.
It starts with Quentin Smith, the returning number one singles player on the teams. This will be only his second year of varsity competition but Gahres already sees a huge improvement in his game.
Senior Nate Calder will be back for his fourth varsity letter. Matt Welsh is another senior who has looked good in the early practices.
“The key to most of the teams success at Mifflin has always been their strength as a team and not so much as highly schooled players on some of the other teams in the county,’ said Gahres. “Blue collar is perhaps a way to describe our team play.’
