Boyertown’s PIAA hopes remain after win over Bishop Shanahan
Fresh off their first loss of the 2014-2015 season to PAC-10 foe Spring-Ford last Wednesday night, the No. 1 seeded Boyertown Bears came into their win-or-go-home matchup with No. 9 seed Bishop Shanahan Monday night with their backs against the wall and the future of their season in question.
But the Bears answered those questions Monday night as they held-off Bishop Shanahan 47-32 in a District 1-AAAA 9-10 playback game.
Boyertown came out of the gates quickly as it led 13-5 after the opening frame, and eventually took a 25-17 lead into halftime. Each team scored 10 apiece in the third, but Boyertown closed it out with a 12-5 advantage in the final quarter to claim the much-needed victory.
Sophomore guard Alli Marcus had a game-high 14 points including a 3-pointer for the Bears while Abby Kapp had a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 11 boards. Junior Maria Garofolo finished with 10 points, scoring four from the free-throw line and Ali Bauman added five points for Boyertown.
For the Eagles, Ciara Forde scored 12 points with a 3-pointer and shot 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. Devon Adams added nine.
Following the win, the Bears will look to keep rolling as they face No. 12 Central Bucks South on Wednesday, who defeated Cheltenham 48-20 Monday night.
