Stevens, Alston provide spark for Haverford School
Lamar Stevens and Shawn Alston combined for 43 points as the eighth-seeded Haverford School boys basketball team stunned top-seeded Hill School, 64-56, in the quarterfinal round of the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (PAISAA) tournament Wednesday afternoon.
Stevens scored 22 points including the first 14 of the game for the Fords. Alston finished with 21, but it was a huge 3-pointer from Derek Mountain in the fourth quarter combined with free throw shooting that enabled the Fords to put the game away.
Mountain’s triple capped an 8-0 run that turned a 39-38 deficit heading into the final quarter into a 46-39 lead. From there, the Fords put the game away at the foul line. Alston shot 11-for-12 and the Fords were 17-for-19 from the line in the fourth quarter.
Cameron Reddish chipped in with 12 points for The Haverford School, which takes on fifth-seeded Phelps School in the first game of a semifinal doubleheader Friday night at Malvern Prep. Tip-off is 6:30. Phelps knocked off No. 4 Germantown Academy, 72-63.
