Three Schuylkill Valley wrestlers win gold at Sectionals
Led by a trio of Schuylkill Valley wrestlers, the three local schools will send 16 competitors to the District 3-AA Tournament. Those 16 finished within the top five of their weight class at the Sectional Tournament held in Hamburg Feb. 13-14.
Schuylkill Valley had three gold medal winners at the sectional tournament, Josh Giorgio (132), Colby Geisinger (182) and Tindall (195) all earned first place finishes, while teammate Jethro Solomon (126) took third place. Hamburg’s Sean Stanish (120), Matt James (152) and Ignacion Reynoso (182) also took home third place medals.
Mike Madara (132) and Tyler Herber of Hamburg (170) each finished in fourth place, as did Schuylkill Valley’s Teddy Limberiou.
Taking home fifth place medals were Hamburg’s Romeo Eaddy (113), Dylan Miller (145), Ron Lavigne (160), Max Kline (220) and jacob Metcalfe (285). Tulpehocken’s Mason Seyfert will also go to the district tournament after finishing in fifth place in the 126 pound weight class.
Giorgio began his gold medal trek with a pin of Dominic Matrone of Kutztown in 1:58 of the quarterfinal round. He then pinned Mike Madara in 38 seconds of their semifinal match, sending Giorgio to the championship match. There he earned a 9-0 victory over Caeleb Blatt of Northern Lebanon.
At 182 pound, Geisinger had two pins and a decision on his way to a gold medal. He started with a 53 second pin of Sebastian Lewis of Lancaster Catholic in the quarterfinals. He followed that with a pin of Robert McCarthy of Wyomissing in 1:52. In the championship match, Geisinger decisioned Craig Spitler of Northern Lebanon, 7-0.
Jonathan Tindall opened his 195 pound weight class jaunt with a 37 second pin of Deion Adams of Wyomissing. In the semifinals, Tindall pinned Donnie Broomell of Pequea Valley in 5:06. In the championship match, Tindall earned an 8-0 decision over Brandon Light of Annville Cleona.
At 120 pounds, Stanish began his trip to third place with a 15-0 technical fall in 4:25. He then lost a 3-0 decision over Andrew Wert of Trinity, sending him to the consolation rounds. There Stanish defeated Zach Kelly of Northern Lebanon, 5-3, and Mark Goldbach of Lancaster Catholic, 10-2.
Solomon pinned Christian Rivera of Columbia in 1:08 of their quarterfinal round bout. In the semifinals, Solomon was pinned by Chase Drawbaugh of Trinity, sending him to the wrestle-back bracket. Solomon pinned Tulpehocken’s Mason Seyfert in 42 seconds, then pinned Taylor Ball of Pequea Valley in 53 seconds in the third place bout.
At 152 pounds, Matt James opened with an 8-3 decision over Peter Boniono of Wyomissing. But James lost a 4-2 decision to Colton Drawbaugh of Trinity, sending him to the wrestle-back round. There he defeated Dirk Gillespie of Lancaster Catholic, 10-6, and followed that with a 7-5 overtime win over Luis Negrerios of Northern Lebanon in the third place bout.
Ignacion Reynoso began his third place trek with a 53 second pin of Austin Rardain of Trinity. He then lost a 17-4 decision to Craig Spitler of Northern Lebanon. In the consolation round, Reynoso earned an 8-4 decision over Elisha Cooksey of Bishop McDevitt, then pinned Robert McCarthy of Wyomissing in the third place bout.
