Pennsbury finishes Abington off on an up-tick
ABINGTON — Pennsbury finished its dual meet season on an up-tick when the Falcons outpaced Suburban One League (SOL) National Conference rival Abington, 52-20, Feb. 4 in enemy territory.
Pennsbury got pins from sophomore Andrew Roccograndi (113 pounds), junior Connor Joyce (120), senior Eric Mongiello (138), junior Zack Clarke (152), senior Luke Kowal (160) and junior Alex Cwenar (170).
Junior Kenny Hickman also majored the Ghosts’ 182-pounder Jaleel Graham. Senior Dominick Perri (220) and freshman Antonio Martoccio (106) won by forfeit.
The Falcons, who went 5-2 in the SOL and 16-7 overall on the season including a loss to Council Rock North in the District One-AAA Duals, must now prepare for the SOL National Championships set for Feb. 14 at Neshaminy High School.
Last year at SOLs, Joyce captured an SOL National Conference crown at 113 pounds and Kowal took second at 152. Both wrestlers went on to regionals where Joyce captured a fourth-place medal.
Mongiello (126), Clarke (145) and senior heavyweight Mason Houriet took third last year at SOLs while Hickman (160) and Cwenar (170) grabbed fourth-place medals.
This year, Pennsbury took third at the opening Saucon Valley Invitational and was a runner-up at the Ralph Wetzel Holiday Classic.
