Upper Darby pins down outright Central title
Economical first-period pins by Jacob Mejias at 113 pounds and Sam DePhillipo at 126 helped Upper Darby clinch a 48-26 win over Penncrest Saturday, earning the Royals the outright Central League title.
Karl Kamanousa (152) and Colin Cronin (132) also scored pins for the Royals, who bested Garnet Valley Wednesday night to guarantee themselves a share of the title.
Max Miller and Ryan Stocku won by pin at 170 and 138, respectively, for Penncrest.
Garnet Valley 36, Conestoga 27: Decisions by Paul Gartman and Mark Peters at 160 and 170 helped turn the momentum in the Jaguars favor, and the lead was consolidated by pins from 182-pounder Ryan Mortimer and 195-pounder Ryan Rushton.
Nick Puliti scored a pin at 132 pounds, and 106-pounder Kevin Christie gutted out a 1-0 decision to help lead the Jaguars.
In nonleague action:
Carroll splits pair: Jake Poulos scored a pair of pins at 170 pounds, leading Archbishop Carroll to a 45-30 win over Upper Merion before dropping a 48-36 decision to Pope John Paul II.
Guillermo Murgueytio (106), Nick Senderling (113), Nick Poulos (120) and Tommy Scott (160) won twice each, one of them via forfeit. The first three complemented the forfeits with pins.
At the Interboro tournament:
Danny Mea pinned Unionville’s Michael Maguire in the 195-pound championship final to claim the title at his home tournament. He fared better than Interboro teammates Shane Mathis and Mike Zizza, who fell in the championship bouts at 120 and 220, respectively.
Jeff Finley finished third at 145 for Interboro.
Sun Valley’s Steve Okoorian scored a major decision in the 170-pound final to notch the Vanguards’ only title. Christian Bateman finished third at 138 pounds.
