Boys Basketball: Carroll’s Jones elevates his game in spotlight
On the national stage, Derrick Jones turned in one of his best games of the season.
The Archbishop Carroll senior scored 31 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as his Patriots earned a 77-68 win over Chicago powerhouse Simeon in the Hoop Hall Classic in Springfield, Mass., Saturday.
Dave Beatty was near a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds, and John Rigbsy and Josh Sharkey chipped in 11 points apiece for the Patriots (10-4). Ryan Daly also added 10 points for Carroll, which was playing opposition from a seventh different state this season.
In other nonleague action:
Glen Mills 51, West Chester Rustin 49: Anthony Johnson posted an authoritative triple-double of 15 points, 14 blocks and 11 rebounds as the Battlin’ Bulls prevailed in overtime to remain unbeaten at home.
Steven Welsh added 16 points, including five in the overtime session, and Khyzeem Brown added eight for Glen Mills (11-3).
Delco Christian 55, Mount Calvary 33: Wyatt Harkins scored 16 points, and Devin Hill added 11 for the Knights.
T.J. Tann, getting his first start, played well with eight points, five assists and five rebounds for DC (4-10).
In the Ches-Mont League:
Avon Grove 60, Sun Valley 49: Kyle Ryan scored a game-high 18 points, and Ryan Hall added 11 for the Vanguards.
In the Kobe Bryant Classic:
Imhotep 69, Chester 54: Jamar Sudan posted a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Marquis Collins chipped in 13 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Clippers, who trailed by 15 at the half.
Stanley Davis added 11 points for Chester (10-4).
