Thomas, Finley help Interboro sweep at Octorara
Interboro had a very strong showing at the Octorara Duals Saturday, sweeping to victories in all five of their matches.
The Buccaneers won, 47-33, over Indian River, 37-36, over Schuylkill Valley, 39-37, over New Oxford, 41-40, over Maple Newtown and, 60-12, over Springfield (Montco). Shane Mathis, in the 120-pound class, won on decision to clinch the win over New Oxford for Interboro.
Eric Thomas (138) and Jeff Finley (145) both went 5-0. The Bucs are now 10-5 this season.
Marple Newtown also stood out, going 4-1 in the duals. It beat Octorara, 46-31, Schuykill Valey, 45-30, Springfield (Montco), 54-18, and Indian Rivera, 42-36.
Anthony Goodman (220) and Niko Akranis (182) both went a perfect 5-0. Tommy Long (170), Zak Elfernani (120) and Brad Busch (195) each went 4-1.
At the Devil Duals at Avon Grove:
Sun Valley was perfect, going 5-0 to come away with the win. It beat Penn Wood, 64-7, Twin Valley, 46-33, Glen Mills, 57-24, Notre Dame Green Pond, 40-36 and Lower Moreland, 42-34.
The Vanguards actually clinched the victory during a loss against Lower Moreland. But, in that matchup, both Avery Frank (152) and Mike Fisher (182) avenged earlier defeats, to impress coach Tom Ellis.
Alex Elliot (160), Steve Okoorain (170), Sean Donohue (132) and Christian Bateman (138) all went a perfect 5-0.
Strath Haven had a solid showing, good 3-2 via wins over Twin Valley (35-34), Malvern Prep (48-30) and Oxford Area (46-27). It lost to Avon Grove, 31-30, and Lower Moreland, 40-33.
Matthew Splain (152), David Moore (160) and Mike Dougherty (170) all went 5-0 in their individual bouts.
