Governor Mifflin wins two of three at KSA Tournament in Orlando
The Governor Mifflin High School girls basketball team went on a bit of a road trip last week. The trip took the Lady Mustangs to Orlando, Florida ,where they participated in the KSA Tournament, Dec. 27, 29 and 30. Governor Mifflin won two of three games at the tournament and are now 7-3 overall on the sesason.
The Lady Mustangs began the tournament with a game against Thomas Worthington H.S. on Dec. 27. Despite a shaky third quarter, Mifflin was able to come away with a 44-36 victory.
Governor Mifflin jumped out to a 14-9 lead after one quarter, then expanded the advantage to nine by halftime, 25-16. But Thomas Worthington fought back in the third period, outscoring Mifflin, 11-5.The Mustangs were able to hold them off and win the game.
Madison Koehler led the Mifflin offense with 13 points in the game, while Melissa Martin scored eight. Emonie Reviere and Jennifer Martin each contributed with six points and Kyra Hartman added five.
On Dec. 29, the Lady Mustangs suffered their only loss of the tournament. Shawnee (N.J.) scored 17 third quarter points on its way to a 49-30 win over Mifflin.
Leading, 19-11 at halftime, Shawnee pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Governor Mifflin, 17-6.
Koehler led the way once again for the Mustang offense with 13 points in the contest. Reviere netted 11 points and Jennifer Martin added four points.
On Dec. 30, Governor Mifflin took on Glen Cove, N.Y. This time the Lady Mustangs had no trouble, as they won the game, 60-38.
