Haverford School sweeps at Towanda Duals
Haverford School’s stellar start to the season showed no signs of slowing Saturday.
Four Fords went unbeaten at the Towanda Duals, leading Haverford School to five lopsided wins over La Salle Institute (51-21), Wilkes Barre Meyers (50-27), Central Columbia (49-21), Tioga (61-15) and host Towanda (51-16).
Junior Mickey Kober went 5-0 at 220 pounds, while sophomore Chris Kober was unbeaten at 170. Freshmen Chase McCollum (120) and Anthony Reginelli (285) also enjoyed undefeated days.
At the Ghost Town Duals:
Josh Yeboah-Gyasi and Peter Augustin each went unbeaten as Upper Darby went 3-2 as a team at the event hosted by Abington.
Yeboah-Gyasi scored five victories by pin at 220 pounds, and Augustin had three decisions and one pin at 285 pounds.
Colin Cronin (138) and Patrick Kane (160) each went 4-1 for the Royals.
At the Colley Classic:
Brothers Chris (126) and Thomas Smarkola (132) were among five Chichester wrestlers who finished second in their respective weight classes.
Joe Tresz lost a heartbreaker in the 160-pound final. Dan Sullivan (182) and John Barlow (285) also reached finals, while 198-pound freshman Noah Harvey finished fourth at the event hosted by West Chester East at which Chi finished fifth as a team.
At the Penn Manor Comet Invitational:
Vince Tavani of Haverford finished third at 106 pounds, leading four Fords medalists.
David Tustin finished fifth at 160 pounds, Jared Smith was seventh at 132, and Pete Moore took eighth at 120.
Garnet Valley 42, Penncrest 27: The Jaguars rattled off four straight wins, including three pins, in the middle of the match to shift the momentum. Wins by Matt Mortimer (138), Gary Pizzuto (145), Robbie Peters (152) and Pat Rowe (160) earned the Jags their 22nd win in the last 23 Central League matches.
Ty D’Ortone won by pin for Penncrest at 113.
