Red Land uses big plays to run away from Conrad Weiser
Conrad Weiser’s Alex Guilbe took the handoff on the first play of Friday’s District 3 Class AAA quarterfinal game and rumbled 60 yards into Red Land territory.
The Scouts scored five plays later when quarterback Tyler Hoss plunged into the end zone from the 1-yard line. But from that point on, it was all Red Land, as the Patriots earned a 42-21 victory to reach next week’s semifinals.
Red Land ran 19 of the next 22 plays, scoring three times to take a 21-7 lead. After the Hoss touchdown, the Patriots marched 65 yards on 10 plays, and quarterback Garrett Scott capped the drive with a 16-yard touchdown pass to tight end Tyler Hodges.
After forcing a quick three-and-out, the Patriots took seven plays to go 78 yards, with Scott running the final 16 yards for the touchdown. Special teamer Jake Rollman recovered a Conrad Weiser fumble on the ensuing kickoff, and Red Land took over on the Scouts 22-yard line. It took running back Justin Johnson just two carries to get into the end zone.
“The kids did a great job responding to (the Scouts’ opening touchdown),” Patriots head coach Chad Weaver said after the game.

Red Land will play the winner of Saturday’s matchup between Manheim Central and Bishop McDevitt in the semifinals. If Manheim Central wins, the Patriots will host a playoff game for the third straight week, a fact Weaver stressed to his team after the game.
