Rastatter leads Bonner-Prendie to District 12 team title
Bonner-Prendie won its second District 12 team cross country championship in three years Thursday, with Ryan Rastatter setting the pace. He crossed the finish line in 16 minutes, 56.9 seconds to take the Class AA individual district title, and keying a rather easy top team finish of 29 points in that smaller school division for the race at Belmont Plateau.
Archbishop Carroll placed second overall, with 75 points, followed by Lansdale Catholic (83), Science Leadershiip Academy (117) and Conwell-Egan (149).
Carroll was led by Tyler Zwicharowski, who placed second overall at 17:26.7, followed by Bonner-Prendie’s Sean Sullivan
(17:27.8) and Carroll’s Matthew Fohner (17:38.1). Bonner-Prendie’s victory truly was one of team, with the Friars placing five runners in the top 11 and seven in the top 15.
Meanwhile, Cardinal O’Hara took the district team title in the girls’ Class AAA ranks. It is the third straight District 12 girls championship for the Lions, who swept the top six places in the race.
The individual title went to Olivia Arizin, who crossed in 19:30.2. Grace Mancini was right behind at 19:32.1, followed by Maura Lyons (19:34.6), Elizabeth Mancini (19:36.0), Sara Hayes (19:40.8) and Eleanor Mancini (19:55.3).
Cardinal O’Hara failed to take a boys championship at Class AAA for the first time in four years. The Lions were nipped by La Salle, 32-35. The Explorers won on depth, with five runners in the top 11. But the Lions still qualify for a rematch at the state championship meet Nov. 1 on the strength of their top three finishers.
O’Hara’s Kevin James won individual gold, finishing in 16:41.5 for his second consecutive district title. Brother and teammate Ryan James was right with him, finishing in second at 16:41.9, while Lions teammate Rob Moro took third at 16:42.8.
In the girls Class AA race, Bonner-Prendie qualified for the state meet by placing second (58 points), and the Pandas had three runners finish in the top 10 and all six in the top 20. Archbishop Wood won the team title at 27 points.
Leading the way for the Pandas were Taylor Barkdoll, who finished second overall at 20:32.3 and Samantha Gliwa, who placed sixth at 21:22.0.
Also for Bonner-Prendie, Bridgid O’Dea placed 16th, Celsey Golato finished 18th and Morgan McGillian finished 19th. Lansdale Catholic’s Kayla Connelly won the district individual title at 19:56.0.
