CB West, Wissahickon boys race to conference crowns at SOL Championships
Wissahickon’s Lotte Black and Lukas Marcelis along with Pennridge’s Marissa Sheva each raced to conference gold medals while the Central Bucks West and Wiss boys each placed first as a team at Friday’s Suburban One League Cross Country Championships at Lehigh University.
Sheva was way out in front in the Continental girls race, as the senior crossed in 18 minutes and 19 seconds to take top honors. It was the second conference title in three years for Sheva, who also won the race as a sophomore
Black was the top finisher in the American girls race, crossing in 19:13, and Marcelis led the way for the Trojan boys, running a winning time of 16:39 to help push his team to the title.
Wiss’ pack also included Cameron Christopher (third), Kyuande Johnson (fifth), Walker Smith (sixth) and Matt Gilman (11th). The Trojans outraced second-place Cheltenham 25-53 for top honors.
The West boys placed all five of their runners in the top 15, led by Rock Fortna’s third-place finish in 16:08. The Bucks also got solid performances from Ian Davies (sixth), Declan McDonald (eighth), Brian Iatarola (11th) and Teagan Fortna (15th) in capturing the Continental.
The West girls, paced by Maddie Villalba, raced to the runner-up spot in the Continental girls, second only to rival CB East.
The District One Championships will be held next Friday, back at Lehigh.
