Cummings, Price keep Garnet Valley rolling
Garnet Valley is keeping pace with Strath Haven in the Central League volleyball standings.
Behind Elise Cummings’ 23 assists and Kylie Price’s four blocks and seven kills, the Jaguars kept their unblemished league record intact with Tuesday night’s 3-0 win (25-18, 25-23, 25-18) over Ridley.
Sydney Portale registered seven kills, Maria Nicolaides posted five kills and five blocks and Jenna Hostetler was excellent on defense with 18 digs for the Jags (8-1, 6-0).
The Green Raiders played the Jaguars tough to the end. Melanie Malseed finished with 18 digs and nine kills, Samantha Schreiber posted 12 digs and Amy Staiber added nine kills.
In other Central League action:
Strath Haven 3, Conestoga 1: Brianna Fisher delivered 18 kills and Rachel Vresilovic reached double figures in two statistical categories (14 digs, 10 kills) as the Panthers (11-1, 6-0) were victorious in four highly competitive sets, 25-13, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23. Maura Gibbs made a monster kill from the back line to end the final set. Ellie Steif supplied 20 assists for the Panthers.
Penncrest 3, Haverford 1: Emily Hopkins recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 20 digs, Diana Balta was a force with 22 kills, and Nikki Gargiule dished out 22 assists for the Lions (10-2, 5-1), who won by scores of 25-18, 17-25, 25-23, 25-21. Bridgette Devlin flourished on defense (18 digs) and Gianna Gargiule handed out 18 assists.
Springfield 3, Upper Darby 1: The Cougars (3-7) notched their second league victory thanks in large part to the effort of Chloe Williams, who posted 12 kills and six blocks. Kerianne Gilligan contributed eight kills.
Evie Shanefield (12 kills, four blocks), April Hinkle (19 assists) and Julia Mckay (three blocks) performed well in defeat for the Royals, who fell 25-22, 25-9, 16-25, 25-12.
Radnor 3, Harriton 0: Sarah Wannenburg and Michaela Parrish had nine and seven kills, respectively, as the Raiders won for the first time this season.
Katelin Dao, Michaela Parrish, Renee Khouri and Cassie Maz were top performers on defense, while Brianna Ellis had a strong all-around game with four kills, six digs and 18 assists.
In the Catholic League:
Cardinal O’Hara 3, Archbishop Ryan 0: Charlee Borcky had a monster game as the Lions (9-2, 3-1) swept 25-20, 25-13, 25-17. Borcky finished with 12 kills, eight aces, eight digs, two assists and one block.
Natalie Gray (19 digs) excelled on defense and Erin Hutchinson impressed with 27 assists in her first varsity outing.
