Penncrest takes down Kennett, Tennent
Penncrest collected two victories Saturday in its volleyball tri-match with Kennett and William Tennent.
The Lions, now 10-2 on the season, defeated Kennett 3-0, with game scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-12.
Emily Hopkins chalked up 16 kills and added 11 digs and four aces. Teammate Bridgette Devlin chipped in 19 digs, while Michael Ann Henne had five kills, Nikki Gargiule had eight assists and Gianna Gargiule had six assists.
The Lions then beat Tennent 3-1, at 25-17, 23-25, 25-9 and 25-19. Hopkins collected 15 kills and 20 digs, while Diana Balta had 15 kills and 18 digs, Gianna Gargiule had 19 assists and Nikki Gargiule added 20 assists. Strath Haven 3, Pennsbury 2: Brianna Fisher had 22 kills and two aces in leading the Panthers to a tough win over a determined Pennsbury team.
Haven won the first game by 25-21, but lost the next two by 20-25 and 19-25, but came back with wins of 25-15 and 15-11 to take the match. Rachel Vresilovic had 24 kills and two blocks, while Ellie Steis posted 28 assists for the Lions.Upper Merion 3, Garnet Valley 1: Kiley Price had nine kills and three blocks and Jenna Hostetler had 30 digs, but the Jaguars fell to the powerful Vikings by scores of 25-23, 25-10 and 25-15. Elise Cummings had 31 assists for the Jags, who won the second game by 25-18.
Upper Merion, which has won three of the last four District One Class AAA titles, handed Garnet Valley its first loss against six victories.
