Mancarella’s goal lifts Penncrest to vicory
Olivia Mancarella’s goal in the closing minutes made the Penncrest girls soccer team a 2-1 winner at Lower Merion in a Central League thriller Thursday.
Nicole Mancarella had the other goal for the Lions (7-2), who also relied on five saves by Kayla Allen and strong midfield play from Gia Martyn.
Garnet Valley 1, Springfield 0: After Britney Dragoni drew a penalty in the 10th minute, Rachel Glenn converted from the spot to give the Jaguars (5-3, 4-1) a lead they wouldn’t relinquish thanks to four saves by Ashley Bufano and solid play on the back line by Taylor Buckley and Jackie Seaver.
Strath Haven 10, Upper Darby 0: Lizzie King pumped in four goals and Maddie Ruffini scored twice as the Panthers peppered Royals keeper Ashley Gura (12 saves).
Harriton 2, Ridley 0: Abby Graeff and Emily Cooper played well in midfield and Sarah Boyle stopped four shots for the Green Raiders (1-6, 1-4).
In the Catholic League:
Archbishop Carroll 3, Bishop McDevitt 0: Devon Temme set up Rachel Maty’s opening goal, igniting a first-half surge that also included scores from Claire Boylan and Della Sorrentino. Gina Hoenig had a pair of saves in the shutout for the Patriots (4-3, 4-1).
Little Flower 4, Cardinal O’Hara 0: Carrie Zamonski came up with a dozen saves for the visiting Lions.
