Williams a hit in Springfield’s victory
Chloe Williams was the heavy hitter for Springfield in Wednesday’s Central League volleyball match against Marple Newtown.
Williams produced 14 kills and three blocks as the Cougars claimed a four-set win over Marple Newtown, 25-16, 17-25, 26-24, 27-25.
Amber Dath dished out 20 assists to go with her eight kills for the Cougars (2-6), who picked up their first league victory. Marissa Klick added 12 kills.
In other Central League action:
Garnet Valley 3, Harriton 0: Elise Cummings supplied 26 assists and Kiley Price chipped in with 10 kills and two blocks as the Jaguars stayed unbeaten with a 25-16, 25-12, 25-8 sweep.
Maria Nicolaides registered six kills and Kelly Sarabaugh added five service aces.
Haverford 3, Upper Darby 0: April Hinkle handed out 14 assists, Edie Shanefield recorded nine kills and Shakeena Walls added four kills in the losing effort.
Strath Haven 3, Lower Merion 0: Brianna Fisher dominated with 15 kills and Grace Sullivan was stellar on defense with 15 digs as the Panthers claimed a hard-fought sweep of the Aces (25-21, 25-23, 25-21). Maura Gibbs pitched in with nine kills and 10 digs.
Conestoga 3, Radnor 0: The Raiders fell to the Pioneers by scores of 25-13, 25-22, 25-18. No other details were reported.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Sun Valley 3, Oxford 1: Madison McCunney (21 kills, 11 digs, five aces), Emily Stokarski (30 assists) and Liz Schaars (seven kills, six aces) all performed extremely well for the Vanguards, who won by scores of 25-13, 25-20, 21-25, 25-17.
In the Catholic Academies League:
Merion Mercy 3, Sacred Heart 0: Ally Schell played well on defense, posting 23 digs, but the Lions (6-3) couldn’t keep pace with the Golden Bears.
