Brower-Caggiano duo sparks Springfield
Jamie Brower and Jenn Caggiano battled past Meilin Zhao and Sarah Much, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 at first doubles and Alyssa DiCandillo held off Kim Gian, 6-4, 6-3 at first singles to help Springfield defeat Upper Darby, 5-2, in a Central League match Friday.
The Royals (3-5, 1-4) had two memorable wins, with Amie Wong pulling out a 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 triumph over Cassandra Enad at second singles, and the tandem of Nikki Kaur and Grace Grant outlasting Stacy DiCandillo and Allie Canzio at second doubles, 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 7-6 (12-10).
Garnet Valley 7, Ridley 0: Abby Goldbach and Eileen Wang put in a little extra work with a 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-0 victory at second doubles to enable the Jaguars to sweep.
Lower Merion 5, Marple Newtown 2: The Tigers’ wins came from Rylee Power (6-4, 6-3) at first singles and Devon DiCampli (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) at third singles.
In the Catholic League:
Archbishop Ryan 4, Archbishop Carroll 1: Senior Jackie Finnegan moved up to second singles and preserved her perfect record with a sweep, but the Patriots (2-2, 2-1) didn’t follow suit in suffering their first league loss.
