Jannelli’s hat trick boosts Springfield over Strath Haven
Nick Jannelli crafted a hat trick that included a pair of highlight reel kicks as the Springfield boys soccer team shocked Strath Haven, 4-1, Thursday in a Central League match.
Jannelli’s first score came on a free kick that he bent over the wall and into the upper left corner of the net. His second tally was equally nice, as Ryan Straube sent a corner kick into the box that Jannelli one-timed for a 2-0 first-half lead.
Strath Haven cut the deficit in half on Cam Ricciardi’s score 10 minutes into the second half, but the Cougars (2-1 overall, 1-0 league) responded with Mike Wallace cashing in a pass from Danny Korinth for a 3-1 lead.
Jannelli sealed the win by redirecting a cross from Mac Drumm in the 68th minute.
Justin Donnelly, Jack Schott, Jim Reardon and Nick Matyszczak played lockdown defense in front of Cougars keeper Mike Gerzabek (four saves).
In other Central League action:
Penncrest 2, Harriton 1: Shea Morgan knocked home a pass from Charlie Simpson 11 minutes into the second half and Sam Brown fed Drew Hanna for the go-ahead goal less than three minutes later. Liam Thomas stood tall in the nets for the Lions (2-0, 1-0), stopping a dozen shots.
Radnor 1, Garnet Valley 0: Jacob Schulz connected on a 35-yard strike off a short corner in the 20th minute, and Ben Toomey made the lead stand up with three saves.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Sun Valley 1, Oxford 1: After falling behind with seven minutes remaining, the Vanguards rallied to pull even when Tyler Smith sent Andrew Sarnocinski on a breakaway less than four minutes later. Sun Valley keeper Julian Bombara made the draw possible with an 18-save performance.
