Nasella gives Ridley memorable start to season
Brooke Nasella’s second goal of the game, an unassisted tally with 3 minutes, 14 seconds left in regulation, made Ridley a 3-2 winner at Avon Grove in a nonleague season opener.
Nasella’s other score was set up by Emily Johnston. Taylor Dorrin fed Taylor Eubanks for the other Green Raider goal. Cait Johnson turned aside four shots to record the win.
Episcopal Academy 5, Central Bucks South 0: Defensive stalwart Maddie Bacskai dished out a pair of assists while Margaux Paolino, Courtnie Williamson, Angela Rocca, Corrine Zanolli and Christy Palazzese each contributed a goal. Bridget Boyle (two saves) and Rachael Farmer (one save) split time in the cage.
Cardinal O’Hara 3, Germantown Academy 1: Hannah Nihill stole the show with a hat trick, getting assists from fellow sophomores Makayla Gallen and Sara Hayes. Lions goaltender Jen Ahearn lost her shutout bid in the second half in finishing with two saves.
Harriton 4, Delco Christian 3: Siani McNeil, Beth Yeung and Madison Moore found the back of the cage in the first half, but the Knights were silenced the rest of the way as Harriton pulled out the win when Robyn Clark slipped a shot past Delco netminder Jamie Madison (nine saves) in overtime.
Harry S Truman 3, Academy Park 1: Sophomore Zyah Newsome notched her first varsity goal by knocking home a pass from Kayla Payne, and Erika Leidy played strong defense in front of goalie Veronica Bauman (six saves). Truman prevailed on the strength of a three-goal flurry over a 2-minute, 7-second span late in the first half.
