Bevy of local products to compete at Junior National Camp/ AAU Junior Olympics
The Junior National Camp will kick off Sunday as a few area standouts were selected to compete in the U21, U19 and U17 age groups. The camp is the premier camp for Under-21 athletes, comprised of the top 110 athletes selected from the National Futures and Futures Elite Championship. Based on their performances from the camp, athletes may earn selection to additional USA Field Hockey programs including the Under 17, Under 19 and Under 21 Junior National Teams.
Spring-Ford graduate and Duke commit Alyssa Chillano was selected along with University of Connecticut’s Olivia Bolles (Villa Maria/ Phoenixville) for the U21 tournament. Princeton’s Kate Ferrara (Hill School) will serve as an alternate.
Methacton’s Brittany Dickinson and Sammi Steele were selected to compete in the U19 division along with Duke commit Gabby Major (Spring-Ford) and Connecticut commit Casey Umstead (Upper Perkiomen).
Megan Duvernois of Collegeville, Kelsey Giese (Perkiomen Valley), Hannah Menge, Sammy Popper, Eleanor Winants and Sophia Gladieux were all invited to compete in the U17 division.
The camp runs from July 6 through July 9 at Spooky Nook in Lancaster, Pa.

A bevy of local products were chosen to attend the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) field hockey Junior Olympics that will be held in Iowa City, Iowa from July 28 to August 2.
Kallie Gray, Carter Ayars, Menge, Hannah Ackers, Rachel Robinson, Winants, Popper, Katie Jean, Gladieux and Samantha Buzalewski were all members of the X-Calibur club team, located at the 422 SportsPlex in Pottstown, that were selected. Methacton’s Olivia Hoover, Giese and DuVernois also impressed and will be competing in the tournament.
The girls were selected from a pool of 688 girls who had been hand-picked to attend the National Futures Championship last weekend at Spooky Nook.
